Angelina Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, a CIA operative that finds out she is also a Russian sleeper spy who will help destroy the United States on “Day X”. You don’t know if Salt is good or bad until about midway through the movie. She ends up having to face off against her former friend and Russian agent Ted Winter (Liev Schreiber) to save the United States, which she does. Unfortunately for Salt everyone still thinks she is the bad guy. In the end Salt is cuffed inside a helicopter with CIA counterintelligence office Darryl Peabody (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who seems to be the only person that knows she isn’t a bad guy. He lets her out of the cuffs and she jumps out of the helicopter into the river below.
Why does there need to be a sequel? Because Salt still has plenty of unfinished business and it would be great to see her head back to Mother Russia to take out the group that tried to turn her into a sleeper agent and threw her life into shambles. Not to mention Angelina did a smashing job as Salt and it would be great to see her reprise the role again.
